gift_wrapped_home_1024Among the more useful data collected every few years by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are statistics about apartments, single-family houses, manufactured houses, new construction and vacant houses. Recently, these stats have revealed some interesting data about American homeowners including those of us in Alexandria.

The latest survey states that individuals responding were happy with where they are living. In fact, 28 percent rated their homes a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale.  An overwhelming percentage of people with recently constructed homes also rated them at or near 10. And this was not just folks who owned their homes outright. Even those with a mortgage, equity or line of credit payment gave their homes high ratings.

There were other interesting facts from the survey. The most common reasons that those making a move chose their neighborhood was not just the house (10 percent); other factors also played a large part in the final decision.  Some of those factors included the home’s vicinity to jobs, family, and friends as well as the neighborhoods themselves. This is something we in the Alexandria region understand.
