The 2010 D.C. Renovator's House Tour is this October 16th
Posted by SaveAFewThousand.com Blogging Team on Thursday, October 7th, 2010 at 3:14pm.In 2001, three resourceful Capitol Hill women were looking for ways to raise funds for the local Capitol Hill Cluster School. Their interest in renovating, combined with a neighborhood full of historic homes in various stages of re-development, sparked the idea of a Renovator's Tour.
This was not just a tour of historic homes; it is a showcase of renovated homes just brimming with ideas and creative solutions for the average person working with a budget. The tour didn't just focus on the upscale McMansions, it also focused on ideas that could be used by homeowners operating within a budget.
Every year different renovating themes are featured and range from a complete renovation from the inside out, to demonstrating an interesting use of colors or decorating schemes. Previous featured homes include the former residence of James W. Whelpley, assistant treasury secretary of the United States, during the the days of President Grover Cleveland.
After attracting almost 1,000 people and raising over $20,000, the event was declared a success and is currently entering its 9th season.
The Capitol Hill Cluster school is a Washington, DC public school that offers a variety of academic programs at three different campuses. Programs include traditional learning, Reggio Emilia and Montessori, but all utilize the responsive classroom technique which promotes a healthy learning environment on three levels – academically, socially and emotionally.
